What's really sticking?
Sometimes… it just feels like you’re throwing a bunch of spaghetti at the wall. Again and again and again.
And sometimes, you’re throwing not just spaghetti at the wall, but fettuccine, elbow macaroni, and lasagna noodles too! (and maybe the spaghetti was already sticking just fine!)
Back away from the pasta, this episode will help you determine what’s really sticking when it comes to your business and visibility and how to let go of the tortellini weighing you down.
In this episode, we review your current efforts and visibility, how to honestly self-evaluate what’s working (and what isn’t), and how to let go of things that aren’t sticking.
In this episode, we review your current efforts and visibility, how to honestly self-evaluate what’s working (and what isn’t), and how to let go of things that aren’t sticking.
- Ideas on how to get all your marketing and visibility efforts in one place
- Using both metrics and gut to evaluate and assess
- Asking yourself honestly whether or not what you’re doing aligns with where you want to be going? What you want to be known for? And if you enjoy it?
- Examples on how I got back in the driver’s seat of my own business after doing this activity
- Giving it a fair shake before declaring it’s not working
- Ways to identify ineffective strategies
- Letting go with ease and action
- And more!
Tis’ the season to honestly start evaluating, what’s worth holding onto and what can we safely let go of?
Ok, so that’s every season, but the end of the year brings that spirit out in me even more!
Let’s make it a little easier to decide and review your current efforts and visibility, shall we? Then, we can safely work to let go of the spaghetti that was never sticking to the wall in the first place.
I recently did an activity in my own business I call Taking Inventory in which I dumped it all on the table (well, technically in a Google doc). I listed out every marketing effort I was engaged in including platforms, organizations, activities like networking, podcasting, etc. All of it.
When I picked it back up to record this episode, my questions were fairly simply as I evaluated what was working and what wasn’t:
- What do the numbers say? Sometimes numbers and metrics tell you everything you need to know!
- Is this aligned with the direction I want to be going in and what I really want to be known for? Do you want people calling you up or sending people your way for this thing specifically?
- Is it FUN or at the very least relatively enjoyable!? Did you like or dislike it?
Doing something like this puts YOU back in the driver’s seat of your business.
You can look at:
- What did I do?
- What am I doing?
- Is it working?
- Do I want to keep going with it or let it go?
There’s no right or wrong answer. There’s just what answer YOU decide that moves you closer to the direction of your goals with MORE EASE, EXCITEMENT, and FLOW.
What went FABULOUSLY?
What went just OK?
What didn’t go well or even AWFUL?
What would you do again?
What will you not be doing again?
What was worth your time, money, energy, emotions, and efforts, and what wasn’t?
Some signs it’s not sticking:
- Low Engagement or Interaction
- Mismatched Goals to the Results You’re Getting
- Lack of Feedback or Generally Negative/No Results
Sometimes you need to let go of something and part ways. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of saying NO moving forward.
Sometimes it’s a promise you make to yourself or others in your relationships.
And sometimes letting go of something is as easy as canceling a subscription, leaving a group, unsubscribing, or never having to do that thing again!
It’s really important to give ourselves this gift…
To be checking in and saying, is this really for me? Is this still something I want to do?
Business visibility and marketing are malleable, evolving, adapting, and ever-changing. There’s no need to be stagnant in the decisions you’re making as you move forward.
