3 Easy, yet powerful actions to support small businesses

Make an impact in a positive way.

1. Share: Sharing is caring!

When it comes to social media and sharing our message with the world, we small business owners need all the support an help we can get.

When you share something a small business posted or is up to, it’s like giving them a free boost in advertising and spreading the word. It increases their chances of people seeing it and connecting with potential customers.

It’s one of the most impactful ways to help someone’s message find its way to new people.

  • Take action: Share posts or a podcast you find helpful from a small business. Make a post about the event you’re attending and help them get more people to join in too. Sharing can be as simple as passing something along and saying, “I’m going will I see you there?” or “I’m listening, are you?”
2. Engage and Comment

It used to be that people commented here, there, and everywhere. But there’s far more engaging on negative stuff these days and in many cases, people just leave a “heart” or a “like” and pass on by without comment.

Let’s flip that script!

Engaging and commenting is an easy way to help BOOST a small business owner’s content and support them.

  • Take action: Leave a thoughtful comment and provide feedback, encouragement, ask a question, open up conversation, the options are endless. You can do this on social media, a blog post or Substack article, replying to their email, a podcast review, an online Google review, a LinkedIn recommendation, or just a personal thoughtful little note.

Give em’ a good old cheering on and show your support!

3. Shoutout

I LOVE me a good shoutout…

Shoutouts are a little more of a direct way to publicly acknowledge and support a business owner you love. It’s about shining a spotlight on someone ELSE, endorsing them, giving them airtime, and helping spread the word in a way that’s personal, sincere, and meaningful.

A shoutout can come in the form of a public post, a mention in a blog (don’t forget the backlinks), a shoutout in your podcast, or a word-of-mouth referral to friends or family.

  • Take action: Think about the last great experience you had with a small business owner you wish to support. Post about what you loved in working with them and TAG them online! It’s such an immensely easy (and free) way to support them.

In my experience, these actions don’t just make them feel good, they also make YOU feel good

Supporting small businesses helps them grow, builds community, increases engagement, and holds endless possibilities.
