6 Business Game-Changers

6 Tiny Reminders that Pack a BIG Punch

No matter your pace right now, no matter what you can and can’t accomplish or check off your to-do list, you’re not broken, behind, or failing. You’re right where you need to be.

This episode gives you 6 tiny, impactful reminders to help you focus on taking the steps, in the season you’re in, and do what you can.

Short and sweet, here are 6 things that’ve been on my mind that I want to remind you of too. They’re BIG business game-changers dressed up in a tiny package:

  • Letting it marinate.
  • There’s no actual secret sauce. YOU are the secret sauce.
  • Getting the ideas is the easy part. Selling them is work.
  • Your voice will NEVER be too much or not enough.
  • Build the business you actually want
  • Speak to real people, not personas.
  • And more!

Reminder #1) Let it Marinate.

One thing I’ve been working on lately is to sleep on things before reacting.

Not every decision needs to be put in the pressure cooker. You’re allowed to sit with ideas, proposals, plans, clients, opportunities, decisions, the hot take you want to post, the email you’re wondering if you should send, the feedback, all of it.

I know some people like to go with their gut. But sometimes your gut isn’t what’s needed. Sometimes your head and heart need to be pulled in, too. Sometimes it’s your body and health that need a say.

Sleeping on things isn’t procrastination; it doesn’t mean you’re not in tune with your intuition. In fact, for me, it’s the opposite. When I pause, that’s when all the rest of the chatter quiets down and my intuition can actually be heard.

Before you react, let it simmer.

Reminder #2) There’s no actual secret sauce. YOU are the secret sauce.

You will always be the formula. If you’re wasting your time trying to figure out the perfect method, template, course, funnel, soaking up any excuse to be someone other than YOU by gaining “wisdom” from others…

Please just stop. Your voice, background, stories, unique way of seeing things; those are your differentiators.

Stop looking everywhere else for the answer, and start looking at the ingredients you’ve got inside.

You are the secret sauce.

Reminder #3) Getting Ideas is Easy. Selling Them is Work.

Taking an idea for an event, a podcast, a new platform, collaborating with someone else, etc. etc. is one thing. Generating the ideas is the easy part.

But putting things into motion, selling it, promoting it, marketing it, being consistent with it… that’s where the work begins.

Build it and they will come is great and all… but the actual BUILDING isn’t always such an easy task.

Next time you feel tempted to chase a shiny object or come up with a brilliant new offering, idea, event, or overhaul, consider all the steps that are involved.

How will you talk about it?

How much time will this take?

What’s your investment?

Do you need help?

How will you invite people?

Is it the right season in your business and life to be doing this?

Getting the idea is easy. Selling it is work.

Reminder #4) Your voice will NEVER be too much or not enough.

Your voice is the entire DAMN point of this! It can’t be too much -it’s everything! Stop toning yourself down, sanding off the edges, over-polishing, apologizing, hiding, and skirting around yourself.

The pieces you’re afraid to share are the exact reasons people are going to say yes.

Your voice is the point, let it be heard!

Your voice will NEVER be too much or not enough.

Reminder #5) Build the business YOU actually want

It only took 6 out of my 7 years in business for this one to stick. No one, I repeat, no one else can determine the dream for you. No one can decide your dream but YOU.

You want to scale? Great! You want spaciousness? Great! You changed your mind and now you want to scale? GREAT. You want to work on the weekends – perfect. You want to work from 9pm-2am… have at it!

But build a business you like.

The kind you want to show up for.

Build a business you’re proud of. Lastly, remember it can take time, perseverance, honest, truth, and a commitment to having your own back.

But, believe me, it’s worth it. It’s worth it to have a business that flows alongside your life, and feeds you heart, mind, and soul.

Build the business you actually want.

Reminder #6) Speak to real people, not personas.

Often we hear about ideal clients, avatars, and an audience “persona”. As a copywriter, I refer to them too once in awhile. It’s good to define our ideal clients. But speaking or writing to an avatar… that’s not the same as writing to or speaking to a real person.

I’ve written for 115 (and counting) different industries and for 1,000 of individuals and here’s what works:

Being a human and sharing with a human. Picture a real listener, a real reader, someone you know opens your content and listens to your stuff.

What do THEY need to hear? What do you want THEM to know?

Ditch the avatars and ideal clients, and write with a real empathy that you know a REAL person on the other side needs.

Connect to their reality. Speak to real people, not personas.
