IT'S NOT JUST A NUMBERS GAME.
When it comes to a message with impact, clarity, and intention are KEY. It’s not about just “more”, it’s about more intentionality and strategy.
I’ll be the first to admit that more followers, more page views, website traffic, podcast guesting spots… it all sounds great in theory. But it’s not always better. It’s sometimes just MORE.
Our words and actions shape hearts, minds, and worlds. We want to choose them wisely.
In this episode, I share 6 ways to make your message MORE impactful as we shift from a numbers-driven mentality to an intentional, strategic mindset focused on right-fit vs. just more.
Increase the Impact of Your Message with Podcast Guesting & Speaking
Canned, AI-generated, and generic pitches are OUT in the podcast guesting and speaking world. Human, intentional, and conversational pitches are IN.
It’s not just a numbers game when it comes to podcast pitching. Sure, it most certainly helps to send more pitches. (In my experience, about 1/10 of your pitches go from getting a response to booking, if you’re just doing it cold)
However, even if I were cold pitching without a relationship established, I wouldn’t want to be a guest on shows that are totally misaligned. And I can guarantee you the podcaster on the other side doesn’t want a cookie-cutter pitch.
Nothing screams, “I haven’t paid a single LICK of attention to you, your audience, or your show!” louder than a cold, unaligned pitch.
Mass outreach, appealing to everyone, sending a bunch, and hoping to get a few bites isn’t the way to go. We want the people we connect with to be people we look forward to conversations with. We want our interviews to be valuable and helpful for their listeners. If you want the most bang for your podcast guesting or speaking buck, focus on IMPACT.
Resources: PodMatch – a podcast guest/host matching service. I’ve met some incredible people through the platform.
My “Find Your Voice” Podcaster Bundles – These are an amazing resource. If you’re serious about podcast guesting or elevating your show as a host, I can help make sense of your message, hash out your topics, questions hosts can ask you, bios you can send, organizing all your pitches, strategically moving forward with an actual repeatable system, and honestly a ton more.
Tips:
- Before you pitch, ask yourself -is this an aligned opportunity or just available?
- Personalize your pitch! Spare the people you’re pitching the Chat GPT siren emojis, em dashes, and “no fluff” “authentic” canned verbiage. Be YOURSELF and speak to THEM.
Increase Your Impact By Saying “Yes” to the RIGHT People
(not simply everyone and anyone)
More money is more money, right?
Not always…
Once you start learning who your ideal people are and aren’t, your ideal collaborators, clients, colleagues, etc., stick to what your gut is telling you when someone doesn’t align with your vision, mission, and values.
More clients, more money, more leads, more projects, more isn’t better, it’s just more. It’s not a numbers game with clients and customers.
Increase Your Impact with QUALITY SEO
Keywords matter. A lot.
All the math and strategy and numbers behind them are intentional. So that you can choose the right keywords to help the RIGHT humans find you.
Right keywords = right eyeballs and those win over random traffic every day. Prioritize who you most want to read, engage, and stay on your website. Be specific. Be intentional and hire an expert if at all possible.
I’d rather you have a website with no SEO than SEO that has you answering the phone every five seconds, explaining yet again that you don’t offer what they think you do.
Increase Your Impact with Clients (not just site visitors)
Site Visitors ≠ Clients
Getting traffic is great! But what happens after they discover your site? Are they able to find the next step clearly?
Is the copy so confusing and generic that they get lost and have no idea what you even do?
Are you attracting and speaking to the right people’s eyeballs (see above point re: SEO).
More isn’t always better. But intentional is usually better.
Increase Your Impact with Social Content
Especially with the way the algorithms are doing loop de loops lately, it can feel like you need to post MORE, MORE, MORE to get people to engage, or see your posts, or whatever result you’re looking for.
I speak from personal experience: The MORE content I churn out, the more the quality suffers.
Quality > quantity. Always.
Tips:
- Don’t fall into the trap of posting more often than you can if doing so sacrifices or diminishes your voice, the YOU in your content.
- Don’t feel the need to constantly reinvent the wheel. There’s a whole lot of repurposing you could be doing!
Business ownership is a long game, a slow burn. It’s about long-term strategies and building relationships of trust over time.
Content burnout is real! Don’t create, produce, and generate just for more’s sake.
Increase Your Message’s Impact By Saying More with Less
Focus on clarity in your messaging and marketing efforts. Don’t try to stick everything but the kitchen sink into… well, everything.
Pare back, remove the unnecessary, simplify, and bring in some breathing room.
Brevity Tips:
- Start with the WHY now?
- Ask why does it or should it matter to THEM?
- Use specific emotions and wording
- Use your REAL conversational voice
When you speak specifically and with intention, and leave out the rest. You leave a lasting impression. Your message makes more of an imprint in their minds and lives.
Key takeaway:
When you’re more intentional and aligned, the right people can find you and more easily identify as potentially working with you.
The depth of connection you make will beat the numbers of exposure, every time. And you don’t need MORE words, more pitches, more clients and projects, you need more meaningful ones.
